Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the general eligibility for your courses?
    • You are 18 years old or older by the start of the course.
    • You are or will be in the U.S. for the duration of the course.
    • You are currently enrolled or will be enrolled in Fall 2026 in a Computer Science or software-related degree program*, or have completed a Computer Science or software-related degree. *Degree program: Associate, Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD
    • Your computer is equipped with a webcam and microphone, which you are willing and able to use in all virtual sessions as part of your active participation.



    Some of our courses will also have prerequisites, such as familiarity with object-oriented programming or data structures and algorithms. You'll find the requirements for each course detailed when you begin your application in our application portal.

  • Who can apply for your courses?

    Our courses are generally designed for students in computing-related majors who are 18 or older and attending a US college or university. Two of our courses: WEB101 and CYB101 are open to all majors.

    All recent CS alumni, and past Codepath course completers (regardless of graduation date) are welcome to apply.

    Some of our courses will also have prerequisites, such as familiarity with object-oriented programming or data structures and algorithms. You'll find the requirements for each course detailed when you begin your application in our application portal.

  • Steps to Follow During the Admissions Process

    Please see a brief description of the application process. During the process, you will receive detailed emails to help you with each step:

    Start application form - Start an application by logging into GitHub and selecting a particular cohort. For Connected Classroom (non-credit remote) courses, you may start your application here by logging through your email.

    Complete application form - Fill out and complete the application. Once the application is submitted, you will receive a confirmation email with next steps (configured per cohort).

    Submit pre-work - You will automatically receive a customized email outlining the next steps for pre-work, including key dates and deadlines. Only applications submitted with pre-work will be reviewed and scored for admissions.

    Confirm spot and agree to terms to get admitted - Our team will finalize admissions by reviewing each application. If selected, you will receive an email requesting to confirm admission. Please note that if the admission is not confirmed, you can potentially lose your spot and be switched to rejected or waitlist status, especially if the class is full due to a large number of applicants.

    It is very important that you add CodePath to your email address contact list, and check your spam folder so that you do not miss any emails from us.

  • How much do these courses cost?

    The class is provided at no cost for students. We work closely with a number of industry partners who help us cover the costs of the program.

  • Who teaches the courses?

    Depending on the course you are enrolled in, our instructors include engineering professionals from major technology companies, start-ups, and academia, such as Google, Meta, or Stanford University. We also carefully select and mentor a group of high-performing student leaders (Tech Fellows) who help facilitate each class of students at partner universities. We have created and tested extensive learning materials including pre-recorded video lectures and online documentation to help with the homework. In addition, professional experts are available to answer student questions online about lecture materials as well as the homework.

    Regardless of which class you take or which university you attend, CodePath provides the same high quality curriculum and course experience to arm you with industry knowledge, technical excellence, and a portfolio to demonstrate your work.

  • Are course times for the fall finalized?

    Course timings may be adjusted or merged, based on enrollment. At least one timing of each course will be available.

  • How has AI impacted the way CodePath teaches computer science?

    CodePath is committed to teaching foundational CS principles like problem decomposition, critical thinking, and systemic design. However, we’re also evolved our curriculum to include AI-assisted coding, responsible AI use, and multidisciplinary applications to better prepare students for an AI-powered future.

  • Does this mean students will rely on AI instead of learning to code?

    No. We emphasize learning how AI works and how to use it effectively, not just relying on AI-generated code. Students will still gain strong CS fundamentals, but they’ll also learn how to integrate AI into real-world engineering workflows.

  • Will AI replace software engineers?

    AI is automating routine coding tasks, but it won’t replace engineers—it will change the expectations of engineers. Those who learn to leverage AI will be more valuable, while those who ignore it risk falling behind. Our goal is to ensure CodePath graduates are on the leading edge.

  • How will CodePath help students in today's job market?

    Employers are increasingly looking for engineers who can think critically about AI, not just use it. Our AI-Native approach prepares students to be adaptable, making them more competitive and valuable in an AI-driven workforce.

  • How much time will participating in a CodePath course take?

    You should set aside 2-10 hours per week for each CodePath class. This includes 1 session per week (2 hours) and homework (depending on the course track). Classes last for 10 weeks. For colleges offering for-credit courses, it can last up to 14 weeks.

  • Are remote courses available?

    Yes, we typically offer multiple remote courses each year:

    • Applied AI Engineering: Master software engineering in an AI-native world. Rather than treating AI as a separate topic, the program embeds it directly into programming practice. Students strengthen their understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming while learning to use AI tools as collaborators for debugging, scaffolding, and refinement, always with human oversight and critical evaluation.
    • Web Development: Dive into full-stack development with the Web Development pathway. Learn to design and create your own sites inspired by popular websites you already know and love. You will build fast, responsive websites with a personalized user experience from account signup to profile customization to content creation.
    • Cybersecurity: Originally designed in partnership with Meta, this course teaches students how to think like a hacker and exploit vulnerabilities, while also exploring how to build offensive capabilities into applications.
    • Technical Interview Prep: Ace technical interviewing and get a preview of real-world software topics in the industry.
    • Tech Fellow Training: Train to be an instructor of one of our CodePath courses at your campus.

  • Do I need to have a Github account?

    Yes. You will need a GitHub account to have access to the CodePath courses, and submit the assignments and labs throughout the course. If you don't have one yet, you can create an account here.

  • Why should I take this CodePath course?

    All CodePath courses are designed to quickly give you technical skills that will enhance your college education, build a portfolio to show future employers, and add valuable skills to your resume.   • Who can apply to Applied AI Engineering Pathway?
    • AI 110: pursuing a CS or software-related course of study, plus completion of at least one foundational programming course (e.g., Intro to CS) or demonstrated proficiency in Python or Java, and understanding of loops, conditionals, arrays, data types, and functions.

    • AI 201: have passed AI 110, or be comfortable using AI tools for learning, debugging, and basic application development with intermediate programming knowledge (data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming).

    • AI 301: have passed AI 201, or have strong programming foundations and the ability to work in complex, unfamiliar codebases, use AI assistants while retaining responsibility for design decisions and code quality, and have familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.

  • How much time per week does it require?

    The Applied AI Engineering pathway requires about 4–6 hours per week. This includes virtual, instructor-led sessions, team collaboration, and hands-on coding assignments.

  • Do I need prior experience?

    The pathway is designed to meet you where you are. AI110 Foundations is open to CS students with basic programming experience, while intermediate and capstone courses build on those fundamentals.

  • What will I build?

    You will build full, end-to-end AI-powered applications, write code contributions that get merged into large-scale production open-source projects, and complete an advanced capstone project for your portfolio.

  • What comes after the pathway?

  • Who can apply to the Technical Interview Prep Pathway?

    For all courses in the TIP pathway:  

    • You Should be pursuing or completed a CS or software-related course of study
    • Have had introductory programming experience (C++, Java, or another OOP language)
    • Have understanding of loops, conditionals, arrays, data types, and functions.
  • How much time per week (5–10 hrs)?

    The Technical Interview Prep pathway requires about 5–10 hours per week. This includes virtual, instructor-led sessions, algorithmic exercises, and peer mock interviews.

  • What level should I start at?

    The pathway offers three levels: TIP101 for beginners, TIP102 for intermediate coders with basic data structure knowledge, and TIP103 for advanced students refining their performance for top tech companies.

  • Does this use AI?

    Yes, you will learn to leverage AI tools strategically to explain concepts and review code, while focusing on building the core problem-solving judgment that interviewers test.

  • What roles does this prepare me for?

    This pathway prepares you to ace technical coding interviews for Software Engineering internships, full-time SWE roles, systems engineering, and specialized technical developer positions.

  • Who can apply to Cybersecurity (CYB)?
    • CYB101: open to all majors, no prerequisites.

    • CYB102 and CYB103 : introductory knowledge of programming, computing, and Linux terminal commands, and pursuing a CS or software-related course of study with hands-on programming or scripting experience.

  • How much time per week (4–9 hrs)?

    The Cybersecurity pathway requires about 4–9 hours per week. This includes virtual, instructor-led sessions, hands-on lab exercises, and threat investigation assignments.

  • Do I need prior experience?

    CYB101 Intro to Cybersecurity is designed for CS students with basic programming and networking familiarity. No prior cybersecurity experience is required.

  • What tools will I use?

    You will work with industry-standard security tools, including SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) platforms, threat intelligence databases, packet analyzers, and virtual incident response labs.

  • What roles does this prepare me for?

    This pathway prepares you for roles such as Security Analyst, Blue Team Engineer, Incident Responder, Cybersecurity Engineer, and software engineering positions with a security focus.

  • Who can apply to the WEB pathway?
    • WEB101: open to all majors, no prerequisites.

    • WEB102: have completed WEB101, or an introductory web development course or equivalent experience, plus an introductory programming course or self-taught equivalent, and pursuing a CS or software-related course of study.

    • WEB103: intermediate web development course or equivalent experience, familiarity with JavaScript fundamentals including JSX, completion of an intermediate OOP or data structures course (or similar), and pursuing a CS or software-related course of study.

  • How much time per week (5–9 hrs)?

    The Web Development pathway requires about 5–9 hours per week. This includes virtual, instructor-led sessions, team collaboration, and hands-on coding assignments.

  • Do I need prior coding experience?

    WEB101 Intro to Web Development welcomes students with minimal coding exposure. Intermediate and advanced levels build on those fundamentals, progressing up to full-stack engineering.

  • What will I build?

    You will design and deploy multiple responsive frontend projects, build web applications utilizing public APIs, and construct complete database-driven full-stack apps with user authentication.

  • What roles does this prepare me for?

    This pathway prepares you for roles such as Frontend Developer, Backend Developer, Full-Stack Engineer, Web Application Developer, and Software Engineer.
