FAQs

If you don't find an answer to your question below, visit this extended FAQ document, where we continue to add answers to questions we're hearing from you all.

  • Who is eligible to join the CTEx program?

    • Currently enrolled at one of the participating schools above

    • CS major (related majors may be considered on a case-by-case basis)

    • Must have completed CS101 & Data Structures (speak with your advisor for course equivalency)

    • Able to reserve 4 (or 7) credit hours for the program (speak with your advisor on applicability for your university)

    • Taking no more than 11-12 additional credit hours at their home institution during the Tech Exchange semester

    • Have at least four semesters left before graduating

  • I'm an international student. Can I still join the CTEx Program?

Yes! International students are welcome as long as they meet the criteria above.

  • What is the program structure?

This virtual program will take place during the spring 2026 semester. The time commitment is a 4-7 credit hours per week.

  • Do I need special equipment or software to participate?

Computer for virtual courses and coding.

  • Will this program delay my graduation?

No! As long as you work with your advisor, the credits you earn will count toward your CS degree and keep you on track for graduation. Some schools will not offer credit for completing the CodePath Tech Exchange program. Chat with your advisor to confirm whether your school offers credit.

  • What does the application include?

You'll complete an online application, a technical assessment, and answer one question about your motivation.

  • What kind of courses will I take?

You’ll take industry-aligned courses in Algorithms and System Designs (ASD) with GenAi and a Careers in Tech (CiT). There’s also an elective Introduction to Software Engineering (ISE) with GenAI course that we strongly recommend you take in addition to the two mandatory courses (Course schedules will be provided when you apply!)

  • Can I still do an internship or work part time while participating?

Yes, but students should carefully consider their workload. We recommend discussing with your advisor and making sure your weekly time commitment allows it.

  • Is there a cost to join?

There is no additional tuition cost beyond your home institution’s standard tuition/fees.

  • Will I get academic advising or mentorship?

Yes! You’ll receive support from faculty, CodePath instructors, and industry mentors throughout the semester.

  • How will this program help me with recruiting or career opportunities?

You’ll gain visibility with CodePath’s employer partners, build a project portfolio, and practice technical interview skills to prepare for internships and full-time roles.

  • What kind of support will I get if I fall behind?

You’ll have access to office hours, study groups, and dedicated program staff who can help you manage challenges.

  • How many online courses can I take as an international (F-1) student?

International students on F-1 visas can count only one online or distance-education course (up to 3 credit hours) toward their full-time enrollment requirement each academic term, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) (link).

    Example:

    • Undergraduates: need 12 credits per semester — at least 9 must be in-person or hybrid.

You may take additional online courses, but they do not count toward the full-time enrollment requirement.

Always confirm with your school’s Designated School Official (DSO) or international student office, since some colleges may have stricter policies.
