Last Mile Education Fund & CodePath Offer Financial Support

CodePath is working with Last Mile Education Fund

Now accepting applications for the Fall 2021 cohort of Tech Fellows; recipients receive funds to overcome short-term financial obstacles and pursue a high-paying career in tech

SAN FRANCISCO – May 10, 2021 —- CodePath, the nonprofit dedicated to transforming computer science education, today announced a new round of Tech Fellow Grants in partnership with The Last Mile Education Fund, which invests in low-income, underrepresented college students in high-demand technology and engineering fields. In addition to the opportunity to receive a one-time cash grant of $599, recipients will attend a virtual 9-week leadership training program to ensure they have all the tools to successfully facilitate their peers in a CodePath course.

“We are grateful to partner with an organization whose mission aligns with ours: to help more underserved students secure jobs in the tech industry,” said Michael Ellison, CEO of CodePath. “Through our work with the Last Mile Education Fund, we are able to solve everyday financial challenges for computer science students who want to gain valuable experience in the virtual classroom and play a role in their fellow students’ success.”

CodePath’s Tech Fellow program offers direct management, valuable leadership development, technical skills improvement and access to CodePath’s career services (including resume building support, career fairs, conferences and projects, when available).  The emergency grants are intended to encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity, especially those who lost internships this year due to Covid-19.

“Unexpected financial hurdles can be devastating for a low-income student — especially during an economic recession,” said Ruthe Farmer, founder and CEO of the Last Mile Education Fund. “This just-in-time financial support keeps students on track and translates to better educational — and career — outcomes.”

The deadline to apply is June 24, 2021 at 11:59 PST. To be eligible, applicants must:

  1. Currently be enrolled in a computing related degree at an accredited institution of higher education in the U.S.
  2. Apply to become a CodePath Tech Fellow for the Fall 2021 semester. Tech Fellows (TF) are ambitious student leaders who are trained by CodePath to deliver courses in mobile app development or cybersecurity to their peers
